Mercerized Cotton - Mercerization
is a treatment for cotton fabric and thread employed to give cotton a more
lustrous appearance and greater strength. The fibers then take dye better with
brighter, deeper colors and do not shrink as much when washed as unmercerized
cotton does. Mercerized cotton blankets also are more resistant to mildew and
also more resistant to lint.
Long staple fiber lengths respond best to
mercerization. The series of processes was devised by John Mercer (scientist)
in the middle of the 19th century.
Microfiber - Microfibers are
man-made ultra fine fibers available in acrylic, nylon, polyester, and rayon.
When woven they produce an extremely drapeable, very soft and luxurious
fabric. Our micro fiber blankets are made of a polyester / acrylic blend.
Orion - A cotton, polyester and acrylic micro fiber Fleece Blend, exclusively developed by Biederlack of America for a consistent finish, adjusted nap for the best design, clarity and blanket coverage, all resulting in a softer hand.
Pile - The upright ends of
yarn, whether cut or looped that form the weaving surface of the material.
Sometimes called the face or nap. Many Biederlack blankets, and throw
blankets are high pile blankets which give them an extra soft almost "furry
feel."
Plush - A fabric of silk, rayon, cotton, or other material with an even thick, deep pile, longer, softer and less dense than velvet pile. Luxurious
Polyester -
A synthetic fiber used for its strength and resistance to ultraviolet
deterioration. It does not have the stretch and elasticity of nylon and, as a
result, will often last longer. Biederlack blankets are made of a micro fiber
acrylic polyester blend.
